POWERFLOP

POWERFLOP is a Seattle-area two-piece featuring Ira Merrill on baritone guitar and vocals and Steve Gale on drums and backup vocals.

The band delivers a surprisingly massive sound for just two musicians, blending power-pop hooks with stoner-rock fuzz and a baritone guitar tuned gloriously low. The result is a loud, catchy mix of fuzzy riffs, sing-along melodies, and gargantuan drums.

Their songs happily wander between the ridiculous and the reflective. Tracks like “Throw A Shoe At You” lean into the band's wry sense of humor, while songs like “It's Gotta Suck” bring a more heartfelt tone. Along the way they occasionally dive headfirst into topical absurdity with songs like “Concept Of A Plan.”

Equal parts loud, melodic, and slightly unhinged, POWERFLOP proves that sometimes two idiots — and a very low-tuned guitar — are more than enough.

Fun fact: Ira and Steve also play in Americana/folk-rock band The Oh Wells when they're feeling more sensitive and less Neanderthal.
